Pay Range $153,210 - $196,788 Annually Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only.
Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description We have openings for Computational Materials and Chemical Research Scientists to conduct a full range of complex research in the areas of actinide process modeling.
You will actively participate with and be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team responsible for modeling and simulation for actinide processing unit operations in support of the Nonproliferation Stewardship Program and other national security programs.
These positions are in the Materials Science Division.
You will Establish the fundamental chemistry behind complex unit operations process models associated with plutonium processing, as well as the necessary material and chemical analyses to characterize unit operations performance.
Perform advanced quantum chemical simulations of the compounds and complexes identified above.
As appropriate, perform complex laboratory experiments and analyses in support of the chemical process model development.
Actively participate in concept development of experiments to capture data needed for computational and machine learning model development.
Perform work in a small-team environment while collaborating with other DOE Laboratories, interagency and academic partners, to accomplish project goals.
Develop and present written analyses and verbal briefings that capture and communicate research results as well as periodic progress reports.
Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Ability to secure and maintain a U.
S.
DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.
S.
citizenship.
Ph.
D.
in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Significant experience in the application of computational chemistry to model structures and properties of molecules, collections of molecules, and solids.
Significant experience with atomistic simulation codes, data acquisition, and data analysis techniques.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills necessary to deliver presentations and prepare written reports, explain technical information, and provide advice to management.
Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff within a collaborative research environment.
Qualifications We Desire Familiarity with computational chemistry of actinides.
Laboratory experience including chemical and material processing and analysis.
Experience with chemical process modeling tools such as Aspen Plus.
