We are looking for a skilled respite caregiver and summer camp/community support aide for an autistic 8-year-old, starting in April 2024.
The respite schedule is flexible, afternoons/evenings/weekends (with the possibility of additional weekday mornings during school breaks), averaging 15 hours/week.
You can work more during some weeks and less for others.
We are happy to work around your existing obligations, provided that you are available to provide care most weeks, and that the amount of care you provide averages to around 15 hours per week over the course of a year.
We also need someone to provide 1-1 support during summer camp or other community activities.
This will either take the form of up to 3 weeks, 35 hours per week for a camp session during the summer, or 2-4 hours per week for group classes (e.
g.
, Hebrew School, martial arts) throughout the year, if we are unable to secure an appropriate summer camp session for the client.
We hope to hire someone who can provide both in-home respite care and out-of-home community support, but we will consider candidates who can only do one or the other.
This position is funded by the Regional Center with payroll administered through a third-party agency, and direct management and hiring decision to be made by the client's family.
While hours are flexible, payment is on W2, so you must be legally eligible to work in the US.
The client is a bright, articulate, very active child with complex sensory needs and high reactivity to the emotional state of caregivers and peers.
Keeping a cool head and maintaining a warm regard for the client is a must.

Successful experience advocating for the inclusion needs of and securing accommodations for disabled clients in "general" group settings, such as classes, sports, camps, etc.
(can be professional or informal/personal) 7.
You adhere to the maxim, "Kids do well when they can," and strive to make it so they "can", rather than trying to make it so they "will" without addressing structural barriers.
8.
Must have reliable transportation to client's home in East Oakland, and to camp and activity sites around the East Bay.
These are primarily places where public transit is generally not fast or reliable.
9.
