We are seeking a passionate and skilled Teaching Artist and Music Educator with a specialization in violin and strings to join our dynamic creative youth development program.
The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to nurturing artistic growth and fostering a love for music among elementary and middle school students.
As a Teaching Artist, you will play a crucial role in designing and delivering engaging music lessons that inspire creativity, instill discipline, and promote teamwork.
*Responsibilities:* * Design and implement a comprehensive music curriculum focused on violin and strings, tailored to the developmental levels of elementary and middle school students.
* Deliver engaging and interactive music lessons that cover foundational techniques, music theory, ensemble playing, and performance skills.
* Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students of diverse backgrounds can thrive and express themselves through music.
* Provide individualized attention and guidance to students to help them progress in their technical skills and musical understanding.
* Plan and organize regular rehearsals and performances, allowing students to showcase their progress and build confidence in their abilities.
* Collaborate with other Teaching Artists and program staff to integrate music education with other artistic disciplines, creating interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
* Incorporate innovative teaching methodologies that encourage critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression.
* Assess student progress and provide regular feedback to students and their parents or guardians.
* Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, and student evaluations.
* Actively participate in program meetings, professional development, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills and stay updated on best practices in creative youth development.
* Contribute to program promotion and community engagement efforts to ensure the program's continued growth and impact.
* Uphold the program's values and goals, acting as a role model for students and colleagues alike.
*Qualifications:* * Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Performance, or related field.
Master's degree preferred.
* Proficiency in playing the violin and other string instruments.
* Prior experience teaching music to elementary and middle school students, with a strong focus on violin and strings.
* Demonstrated ability to create engaging and developmentally appropriate music curriculum.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
* Understanding of and experience with creative youth development principles and practices.
* Ability to adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education and the arts.
* Flexibility and a positive attitude in a dynamic and evolving program environment.
* Willingness to collaborate and contribute to the program's overall success.
