Associate Dean of Student Life and Wellness
Carondelet High School (About Us) is looking for a full time Associate Dean effective immediately.
The Associate Dean of Student Life and Wellness is an advocate for students dealing with personal, emotional, medical, and academic needs and works with the Dean of Student Life and Wellness to help foster a positive and supportive educational environment built on trust, safety of the whole child, and with a focus on CSJ mission.
The Associate Dean of Student Life and Wellness helps administer procedures related to student discipline policies, campus safety and security, coverage of events, working with the Student Life Team on logistics, initiatives, and programs.
Essential Responsibilities: Works with the Dean of Student Life and Wellness as an advocate, facilitator, and disciplinarian for students while helping oversee the basic quality of life of all Carondelet students.
Implements guidelines for proper student conduct and dress, maintains student discipline, monitors students’ adherence to established school rules, and ensures a safe environment for all students.
Fosters a school environment of unity, harmony, cooperation, and high morale through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each student.
As part of the Student Life Team, lives the mission of the school, in the CSJ tradition, through a thorough knowledge and understanding of the mission, vision, and values of Carondelet High School.
Builds and maintains positive relationships with staff, parents, and community members.
Creates positive interactions with students, families, and outside constituencies through a variety of responsibilities and promotes a positive image of Carondelet.
Is a life-long learner who takes advantage of professional growth opportunities related to their job and education in general.
Is an equity-focused, inclusive staff member with the ability to support an environment where a growth mindset is a prominent presence in all aspects of school life.
Embraces the school’s culture of philanthropy.
Maintains strict confidentiality related to students, school families, and alumnae.
Develops innovative strategies and use of technology to ensure smooth implementation of student programming and events.
Administrative Responsibilities Student Life/Discipline Supervision and Logistics Assists Dean of Student Life and Wellness in day-to-day campus supervision, including supervision of the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation, and in implementing school protocols and policies.
Develops and tracks faculty/staff campus supervision assignments and student parking.
Provides logistics support and coordination in the morning, during the school day, after school, and at selected events, including but not limited to: Frosh Family Social/Orientation, Open House, Placement Test, Visions of Christmas, Interviews, Dances, Graduation, etc.
Along with the Dean of Student Life and Wellness, partners with the Director of Facilities and Grounds when it comes to campus safety.
Works with the Director of Student Activities and Dean of Student Life and Wellness on student orientations.
Discipline and Student Outreach Oversees discipline when it comes to attendance.
Partners with the Attendance Coordinator in outreach to students about attendance concerns.
Analyzes attendance data for trends that require outreach to students and families.
Communicates and meets with students, families when attendance watch, warning, or probation is required.
In coordination with the Dean of Student Life and Wellness, establishes, enforces, and reviews guidelines for student behavior, including dress code and attendance.
Documents student disciplinary action, grounded in school policies and values.
Confers with and advises parents and school personnel in developing alternative solutions to student attendance and discipline concerns.
Serves as an initial point of contact for students under stress.
Helps triage and ensure that students are directed to the correct person when an issue brought forward requires more expansive intervention.
Works with Wellness Counselors and Director of Academics & Learning Support in identifying students with emotional, personal, academic, and behavioral issues and connects with parents/guardians and teachers as needed.
Participates in student life meetings related to student wellness and behaviors as needed.
Co-facilitates and participates in various Student Life programming regarding positive campus culture.
In the absence of the Dean of Student Life and Wellness, assumes the Dean’s responsibilities.
Student Activities: Logistics Initiates and responsively manages the lunch schedule and cafeteria logistics, including communication with our cafeteria vendor.
Assists the Director of Student Activities and Dean of Students and Wellness with the logistics and supervision of the major events that include but are not limited to: Orientation, Frosh Family Social, Welcome Week, Sisterhood Week, Homecoming, RISE Week, Junior Prom, Student Recognition Assemblies, Admissions events and other events as they arise.
Partners with the Director of Student Activities in planning and executing the logistics of senior events including but not limited to: Senior Sunrise, Senior Sunset, Senior Ball, Senior Send-off, Graduation, and Senior Awards.
Criteria Prefer experience in an educational setting Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with advanced degree preferred Three plus years of experience in a student life/affairs position at a secondary school Experience in managing people in complex interpersonal environments Proficient in balancing multiple duties and responsibilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail Adept at communicating with students, teachers, and parents on a wide variety of topics Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and a comfort with and willingness to learn a variety of computer platforms as needed Physical Requirements Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents Able to conduct verbal conversation Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels) Able to sit, stoop, kneel bend, walk, and climb slopes, stairs, and steps Able to stand for extended periods of time Able to push and or pull a variety of tools and equipment up to 10 pounds Able to reach and twist Able to carry up to 10 pounds
