PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks a full-time science teacher to teach a total of four year-long introductory science classes, which may include introductory and upper-division courses.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated the desire and skills to collaboratively generate curriculum and implement pedagogies that help students develop and learn the specific skills necessary to express and apply them.
They will also have had experience with, or be interested in learning about, the design and implementation of alternative grading practices.
Such candidates will also be drawn to meaningfully finding ways to express Athenian’s Pillars in our classrooms: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, Service.
We seek an educator who models lifelong learning and becomes an active part of our vibrant community outside of the classroom.
Successful candidates will also bring experience with differentiated, experiential, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will bring strong cultural competency and the capacity to work with students, families and colleagues who represent a broad range of identities and experiences.
We seek candidates with excellent classroom management skills and experience teaching high school science, with a particular focus on Physics and/or Biology.
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in science or another relevant degree.
The ability to teach other emerging and interdisciplinary subjects, and experience in curriculum design, would be a plus.
In addition to these responsibilities, faculty have the chance to apply for and serve as part of our residential life team which would include dormitory housing.
Faculty also have the opportunity to coach a sport for a supplemental stipend.

The salary for this role will range from $79,700-144,200.
Additionally, faculty receive additional stipends for completed Masters and Doctoral degrees.
All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities.
These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities.
Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
