Description of Position:
The Diablo Valley College architecture program is seeking qualified applicants for our part-time instructor pool who are interested in teaching design, drafting, history, theory, and digital media classes in architecture.
Applicants from a wide range of architectural disciplines and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Please indicate on your resume the areas of interest where you would like to be considered.
Potential openings for teaching in future semesters may be available for our digital media classes focusing on Rhino and V-Ray as well as second-year design studio courses.
Applicants with an interest in other areas such as history and theory, technical drawing, drafting and representation, as well as working drawings, energy, sustainability, and building technology are also encouraged to apply should future opportunities become available.
Most classes are taught face to face and on our Pleasant Hill campus.
Applicants should submit a resume and a brief portfolio of work with a cover letter expressing their interest in teaching and their preferred areas of teaching.
Teaching experience is desirable but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1.
providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2.
creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3.
evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4.
meeting with students outside of class;
5.
maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6.
maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7.
fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8.
maintaining accurate academic records;
9.
performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
Any degree and two years of work or teaching experience in the field of architecture
OR
An Associates Degree and six years work experience in the filed of architecture.
Desirable Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience is desirable but not required.
