The Job/What You'll Do: The Director of Portfolio Enablement will be an experienced strategic leader within the Project Management Office (PMO) responsible for enabling best of class project management tools and processes to accelerate winning outcomes for AssetMark by delivering on the organizational strategy to grow and scale, and enable AssetMark to achieve our goals.
This position will be responsible for closely collaborating with PMO professionals and cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and enable seamless project execution and PMO management.
Enablement for the project portfolio includes optimizing and enhancing the existing PMO methodologies and project delivery frameworks, development and implementation of PMO best practices, tools, templates, and training materials, continuous implementation of process improvements, and onboarding, training, and certification of project managers and teams.
This position will work directly with all project team members within and outside the PMO and senior leaders throughout the organization to implement and maintain PMO policies, procedures, practices, and project execution guidelines that ensure project management excellence.
Experience engaging at all levels of the organization is essential.
Extensive experience leading complex, cross functional programs and projects, as well as prior experience and a deep understanding of implementing PMO tools and designing efficient processes, is critical.
This is a full-time position in our Concord, CA, or Phoenix, AZ office with a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities: Manage, maintain, and enhance the project management governance and operating model framework (PMO Playbook) including policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices.
Assess, optimize, and implement project management tools such as Planview within the PMO to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, communication, and data flow.
Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging tools to recommend and implement improvements.
Maintain comprehensive project documentation and evaluation templates for all project management processes including business case, project charter, execution phase documents, status reports, audit and compliance checklists, and customer surveys.
Provide training, guidance, and support to project managers and project team members on PMO governance, operating model, processes, and tools, ensuring their understanding of compliance with established standards.
Certify trained project managers and project team members, at least annually, in AssetMark PMO methodology.
Onboard new project managers, conduct training, and establish access to all required PMO documentation and tools.
Maintain and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) related to PMO tools and processes.
Analyze KPI data to identify areas for enhancement and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the PMO, focusing on tools, processes, and overall efficiency.
Accountable for PMO Charter metrics measured by PMO process adherence, project deliverables quality, project audit results, stakeholder expectations.
This includes continuous improvement of speed to proficiency for both people and processes, and number and quality of PMO process and tool improvements.
Focus on client outcomes, problem solving, cooperating, and communicating with the rest of the organization to achieve shared success.
Cultivate and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with senior leadership, stakeholders, business partners, development teams, and critical vendors to understand business needs, define and execute PMO process improvements, and ensure PMO tools meet or exceed expectations.
Develop and maintain comprehensive understanding, certification, and compliance in all AssetMark PMO operations including project management tools, practices, policies, guidelines, and requirements.
Cultivate a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the portfolio enablement function.
Present concisely and thoughtfully while facilitating discussions that drive clarity.
Foster adoption of the PMO vision across cross-functional leadership, team members, and stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To qualify for the position of Director Portfolio Enablement in the PMO, the desired candidate must possess clear, documented experience in a senior leadership or senior PMO-based position in which candidate has demonstrated quantifiable results in project management and project management frameworks, processes, and tools: Proven track record of success in implementing project management frameworks, processes, and tools to drive business results.
Deep understanding of project management methodologies, standards, and best practices.
Proficiency in process mapping and analysis techniques, such as Six Sigma.
Deep experience owning and executing technology development projects including scoping, testing, systems go-live, and other similar technology project attributes.
Demonstrated responsibility for professionally managing a minimum of $20,000,000 in project budget or project spend across the total experience listed above.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and align cross-functional teams, stakeholders, customers, and senior business leaders across various areas including user experience, technology, operations, risk management, legal, compliance, and other key partner areas to deliver business outcomes effectively.
Effective leader and proven manager, able to balance the need for process and flexibility while playing a client focused role in the prioritization and shepherding of projects to delivery.
Expert knowledge of Project Management and application development methodologies, tools and techniques including Waterfall and Agile.
Prior experience successfully delivering change in a complex environment while managing competing environments and delivering projects.
Proven ability to operate in a highly entrepreneurial, high-performance, and decentralized environment.
Deep competence in project management tools including JIRA, Microsoft Project Professional, SharePoint, Microsoft Office Professional (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Access, etc.
), Adaptive, NetSuite, and Planview.
Ability to follow PMO RACI policies and practices to ensure compliance and identify areas of non-compliance and remediation requirements.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and train subordinate personnel to effectively manage career planning and drive high-performance corporate outcomes Ability to influence divergent functions and stakeholders to achieve required PMO and corporate objectives that meet or exceed project and customer expectations.
Ability to create a highly positive working experience in a high-stress environment.

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification, with additional professional certifications considered advantageous.
Minimum twelve years of experience in a complex, project-intensive corporate environment with supervisory responsibility over PMO frameworks and processes and/or supervisory responsibility over multiple large-scale technology or process improvement initiatives.
Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $200,000-$250,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location.
This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
