POSITION TITLE: Director of Labor Relations
AREA: Labor Relations and Contractor Member Services
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Labor Relations
SALARY RANGE: $150,000 - $175,000
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Assist in developing UCON?s labor relations profile with contractors and unions across the state; fostering cooperative working relationships with other departments, members, and union contacts served; planning, managing, and creating of the delivery of industry guidance, programs, and other member services; providing direction and oversight on the activities and functions of the department and staff, which includes developing departmental goals and objectives; developing and implementing department policies and standards; providing assistance to department and management staff in areas of expertise.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBLITY: To include, but not limited to the following: ? Assists in labor negotiations, arbitration, and all contractor/labor union disputes.
? Participates in new market / membership development / organizing agreements.
? Serves as a key staff liaison to the Labor Executive Committees (LECs) in Northern and Southern California and is responsible for all work associated with each LEC?s objectives.
Responsible for building the leadership structure of the LECs and continuing to develop the contractor leadership infrastructure.
? Serves as a key staff liaison to all craft committees across the state.
Responsible for talent development and building the leadership structure of the craft committees into the future.
? Participates in meetings with the LECs and other Boards, Trusts, and other leadership committees, as needed; overseeing preparation and delivery of reports and presentations.
? Coordinates communications and relationships across the Association membership regarding industry issues and organizational entities.
? Communicates organizational initiatives and accomplishments both internally and externally to our members and industry through bulletins, UCON magazine, social media, public relations and similar.
? Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the CEO and/or the Vice-President of Labor Relations from time to time.
? Assists in management of activities associated with UCON?s Leadership development activities and initiatives.
SERVICE & MANAGEMENT WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT GENERAL LABOR RELATIONS & ADVOCACY: ? Collective Bargaining Agreement Negotiations Support ? Labor Grievance & Labor Dispute Advocacy ? Maintain & Foster Positive Union Relations at All Levels ? Labor Executive Committees and Craft Committees Liaison ? Contractor Help Desk & Labor Representative ? Business Development & Organizing Agreements KEY AREAS OF DIRECT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: ? Responsible for managing / collaborating with entire UCON Labor & Member Services (LMS) team, along with Vice President of Labor Relations ? Responsible for managing and growing the catalog of guides, charts, and other resources available to meet ever-evolving contractor and industry needs ? Responsible for managing all processes associated with collective bargaining, including but not limited to, strategic development of proposals, industry research, and related ? Responsible for UCON?s ongoing recruitment of talent to fill roles for all negotiation teams and craft committees ? Responsible for management of all projects and activities related to Industry Partnering Meetings ? Responsible for maximizing CBA Power of Attorney (POA) assignments by members and nonmember contractors across the industry to maximize influence and bargaining effectiveness MEMBER SERVICES/RETENTION: ? Provide front-line problem-solving assistance to members, including for contract interpretation, analysis, and other guidance on all manner of member inquiries / issues ? Advocacy on labor, grievance, and trust fund disputes ? Educate members on UCON services, products, and other available resources ? Development of guides, memos, bulletins, and other communications and resources for membership ? Analyze and provide guidance on new employment, labor, HR laws & regulations affecting members ? New member orientations and topic-specific trainings ? Member engagement, relationship maintenance, and industry leader development ? Member satisfaction through services provided & relationship maintenance ? Support, and eventually be the lead potential member organizing activities and recruitment ? Contribute to magazine, website, social media communications ? Daily interdepartmental and external communication / collaboration with members, unions, and other industry stakeholders OTHER: ? Attend UCON events, Board of Directors and other leadership body meetings, and other industry events to represent the organization?s interests.
