Job Description The Computational Engineering Division (CED) has an opening for Group Leader of the Computational Mechanics Group (CMG).
The primary focus of this group is providing engineering code development support to the ALE3D project and expanding application spaces for the code.
ALE3D is a multi-physics code supporting 2D and 3D Arbitrary Lagrange-Eulerian (ALE) simulations.
The ALE3D research and development applications are collaborative efforts with the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Homeland Security for national security problems requiring massively parallel computing.
The ALE3D code is deployed on a variety of high-performance computing systems at DOE, DoD, and external collaborator sites; the project’s efforts include design, implementation, and evaluation of finite element and possibly finite volume methods, development of computational models, and analyses with multi-physics applications involving solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, chemistry, and/or magneto-hydrodynamics.
You will work closely with the ALE3D project lead to ensure engineering code development and user support needs are being satisfied.
The secondary focus of this group is providing simulation and analyst support to the broader Strategic Deterrence (SD) and Global Security (GS) communities and their external partners.
You will work closely with other groups within CED and Engineering to support the missions of the Laboratory.
This position is in the Engineering Modeling and Simulation Section, within the Computational Engineering Division.
This Group Leader position is funded at approximately 15% time and the successful candidate must maintain other programmatic roles.
Those complementary assignments are at the discretion and direction of the funding programmatic elements.
Areas of technical contribution are the development of high-performance multi-physics simulation software for use on massively parallel computers and/or analysis of complex mechanical systems subject to dynamic structural and thermal loads with emphasis on high-performance computational techniques.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
In this role you will Supervise, provide technical and administrative direction, guidance, support, mentoring, coaching, and promote teamwork for a team of code developers and advanced users.
Participate in employee career development, performance reviews, ranking, salary management, and diversity and inclusion processes and initiatives.
