Job Summary: The R&D department is seeking a qualified candidate for an immediate full-time job opening for the position of Product Applications Engineer, located in San Leandro, CA or Katy, TX and reporting to Engineering Manager (Systems Design and Modeling).
The R&D department consists of a dynamic group of engineers and technicians with a range of backgrounds, several of them holding PhD and Masters Degrees.
The position requires a well-rounded expertise in fluids/thermal/energy systems design and modeling.
A sound knowledge base in thermodynamics, heat transfer, refrigeration and HVAC is required.
This position is responsible for modeling, predicting and optimizing energy recovery using our proprietary rotary pressure exchangers in applications related to refrigeration and heat pump (vapor compression cycles) using CO2.
The Product Applications Engineer is responsible for supporting the adoption of Energy Recovery pressure exchangers and works cross-functionally with multiple departments on new markets and applications.
This includes working closely with Business Unit and end customers to help them design, model and analyze customized CO2 refrigeration systems, conduct trade off studies, analyze field data and drive actionable insights.
The candidate will also work closely with field engineering team to help resolve field issues, process field data and verify performance enhancement and reliability of the product.

Major Duties & Responsibilities: Develop thermodynamic cycle models using MATLAB/Python or other software for commercial refrigeration and heat pump systems Design, analyze, & optimize energy recovery systems for highest performance, reliability & availability at the lowest cost.
Assist the sales team in conducting pre-sales engineering analysis, system integration, bill of materials, and preparing sales materials.
Respond to customer and client inquiries.
Analyze field data using MATLAB and Python to calculate energy savings and help improve performance by tuning suitable parameters.
Utilize advanced data analytics, statistics, and machine learning skills as necessary to accelerate the response time in case of field events.
Lead the maintenance, testing and upgrading of our online performance prediction tool working closely with R&D team, IT, Business Unit and outside vendors.
Define and build tools to enable refrigeration engineers, engineers of record and OEM engineers to specify, install and integrate Energy Recovery technology into typical refrigeration systems Support industry and customer education efforts (delivering technical information, training material, verification, and accreditation process) on the value proposition of our Energy Recovery devices & systems.
Support collection and reporting of the voice of customer feedback Support defining and improving technical requirements for current and future products Support OEM and end-user/operator account management, as needed All other projects and duties as assigned Skills & Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical Field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience or Advanced Degree (Masters) required.
Concentration in thermodynamics, heat transfer, refrigeration, energy systems is highly desirable.
Fluency in at least one engineering programming language (MATLAB or Python, etc.
) required.
Experience in Refrigeration and/ or Heat Pump Industry is highly desirable.
Familiarity with thermodynamic or energy system cycle analyses highly desirable.
Experience in engineering, product development, sustainment, or operations highly desirable.
Conversant and familiar with engineering analysis software – CAD (Solid works preferred), P&ID/PFD drawings (VISIO preferred).
Skilled in customer/stakeholder relationship management, business planning, teamwork, and execution.
Superior oral & written communications and interpersonal/relationship skills including the ability to convey technical information clearly at all levels.
Strong customer-centric mindset – understanding customer’s requirements and ability to think like a customer is required Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Valid Passport and ability to travel internationally Basic time management skills, and knowledge of business software platforms (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, CRM etc.
