Requisition ID # 155477 Job Category: Engineering / Science Job Level: Individual Contributor Business Unit: Gas Engineering Work Type: Hybrid Job Location: San Ramon Department Overview The Gas Engineering, Associate (Entry Level) position is within the Transmission Pipeline Engineering and Design section of PG&E Gas Operations.
Transmission Engineering is responsible for designing and working with project management to execute projects with the vision of becoming the Safest, Most Reliable Utility.
Transmission Engineering works with a multitude of stakeholders to develop/modify scope throughout the life cycle of project and then execute that project efficiently.
Position Summary The Associate Gas Engineering position is within the Pipeline, Valve, In-Line-Inspection, and Strength Test (PVIS) Team.
The position will be responsible for reviewing and establishing project scope, detailed engineering, design reviews, construction support, and as-built documentation review and approval for gas transmission projects.
Projects may include valve replacements, long and short line pipeline installations and replacement, trenchless pipeline installations, ILI pipeline upgrades, ILI launcher and receiver designs (may be within stations), and strength tests.
An engineer in our organization must be an advocate for safety and lead by example.
Incorporate safety into designs, construction, and M&O activities.
Ensure that safe practices and procedures are communicated, incorporated, and followed in all activities and engineering work products.
Safety is our #1 priority! An engineer on our team is responsible for engineering gas transmission pipelines and facilities.
Applying 49CFR Part 192 and PG&E gas design standards and work procedures is critical to success.
Ensure that all designs meet applicable codes and gas standards.
Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in gas transmission pipeline design, maintenance, and operations.
Must be able to work with limited supervision and guidance, both independently and/or as a member of a team.
An engineer on our team is involved in all aspects of project engineering, including; scope of work development, engineering analysis of alternatives, coordination of land rights and permitting, overall coordination of engineering disciplines, overseeing preparation of design drawings, material specification, material management, preparation of construction specifications, construction support, clearance preparation, commissioning support, preparation of operations and maintenance instructions, and coordination/preparation of the engineering record documents and as-builts.
An engineer on our team will manage engineering contractors.
Our team utilizes engineering contractors to supplement PG&E resources.
The engineering contractors may provide both project engineering and project management services.
This position will develop descriptions of the work to be performed by engineering contractors, evaluate contractor proposals, assist contractors with PG&E engineering processes and procedures, and manage the work being performed by engineering contractors.
Engineers on our team proactively communicate and coordinate with numerous organizations throughout PG&E to ensure all aspects of the scope of work is identified and all constraints are known.
External contacts consist of various third parties such as Cal Trans, Cities, Counties, real estate developers, landowners, and construction contractors.
Gas Operations is headquartered out of San Ramon, CA, but is a hybrid position.
This position is remote (work-from-home), but the successful candidate will be required to travel to various field locations throughout the life cycle of the projects from scoping, routing, design, permitting, bidding, construction, and operational tie-in.
Additionally, it is highly recommended to attend in person monthly team building meetings, training, and other in-person events.
Attendance at in-person meetings may be required in some cases.
The candidate will be required to work with various PG&E groups within transmission and distribution planning, transmission and distribution engineering, transmission integrity management, project management, project support staff (land, environmental, cultural resources, customer care, etc.
), and general construction.
The candidate will also be required to work with various contract firms responsible for engineering, project management, and construction.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting.
This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.
The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable salary range is: ​ Annual Minimum: $95,000.
00 Annual Maximum: $143,000.
00 Job Responsibilities Performs basic engineering work using established engineering tools, processes and practices to complete work assignments Partners with more experienced engineers to develop knowledge Assists with the more complex projects Manager sets priorities, gives detailed direction with regard to work performed, and typically reviews work regularly Qualifications: Minimum: BS Engineering Up to one (1) Year of related experience in an Engineering environment May be required to have a valid California driver's license on day one of employment.
Desired: 1 year of experience in engineering and/or underground construction to include background working with gas distribution, gas transmission pipelines, and pipeline construction Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, civil, metallurgical or materials engineering Professional Engineering Registration in Mechanical or Civil Engineering in State of California Understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) 49CFR Part 192 codes and regulations, California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) GO 112E, and ASME B31.
8 Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work well in a team environment as well as both an office and field environment Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, and Outlook Project management experience Working knowledge or experience in gas operations or gas system planning Experience in developing and administering contracts and specifications SAP experience in job ownership, materials, financials
