Tesla is seeking a dynamic environmental professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS).
The role will support dispersion modeling projects across Tesla’s global operations.
Reporting to the Air Quality Program Manager, the Air Quality Engineer – Modeling will be responsible for performing complex technical work in air quality dispersion modeling and permitting projects.
He or she will also manage external environmental consultants, serve as the internal environmental technical subject matter expert, and advise and influence internal business partners in order to achieve environmental performance goals.

Role can be based out of Austin, TX or Fremont, CA
What You’ll Do
Conduct air dispersion modeling and health impacts evaluations for new and existing facilities globally in support of permit applications and emergency response planning as assigned
Monitor and analyze the developing trends and changes in model updates, modeling protocols, regulatory compliance laws, and rules & regulations
Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new manufacturing programs to meet regulatory and company requirements
Develop emission inventories and regulatory applicability evaluations, and assist in preparing minor and major source air permit applications
Support the completion of periodic and annual emissions reports for facilities as needed per local, state, and federal agency requirements
Support audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies, including Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other state and local regulatory agencies; and internal stakeholders
Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental-related discipline, or equivalent
Minimum 5+ years experience with air dispersion modeling and health impacts evaluation in support of air permit applications in multiple jurisdictions across North America.
Global experience outside North America is a plus
Strong knowledge and experience with dispersion modeling using AERMOD and health impacts evaluation procedures across multiple permitting agencies for air permitting and release events for emergency response planning; knowledge of other dispersion modeling software is desired
Strong foundational knowledge of air quality laws (CAA, CEQA, NEPA, etc.
), regulations, and standards along with strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
Demonstrated experience to understand various chemical and physical manufacturing processes and develop accurate emission inventories for air emissions reports and permit applications is a plus
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly
Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment
