What to Expect
The Staff Quality Engineer will work as a member of Tesla’s Quality organization.
The primary objective of this role is to support the production of high-quality electric vehicles through the continuous improvement of process and product quality plus the systems that surround them.
The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, expected to work cross-functionally to identify and prioritize potential product and process failures and drive both corrective and preventative actions.
What You’ll Do
Lead a team of Quality Engineers and Engineering Technicians to prioritize and efficiently tackle the top-Quality issues originating from Production teams and Customer feedback
Provide actionable and concise updates on top Quality issues to Senior Leadership
Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions
Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customers.
Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design, and process FMEAs and DVAs
Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes
Work cross-functionally to develop and implement robust quality systems to reduce VOR, containment, and other high severity events
Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product
Support the overall team in building and implementing appropriate quality audit standards and procedures
Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
7+ years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing or a manufacturing-related industry
Experience developing process / quality plans and audit procedures and driving failure analysis efforts and corrective actions
Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc
Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
Excellent problem-solver with a strong quality and customer-focused mindset
Must possess a bias for action, with the ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in challenging circumstances, owning assignments, and taking full accountability for overall success
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to Tesla’s sites as needed, especially in support of new product and line launches
